Clare Balding to replace Aled Jones on 2

Clare Balding will be presenting her first radio shows for BBC Radio 2 in January, taking over Good Morning Sunday.

Aled Jones has presented the show for six years, after replacing long-running host Don Maclean. The BBC says Jones will continue to work on radio projects, including a new musical series, as well as presenting ITV’s weekday Daybreak programme.

Controller of BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music, Bob Shennan, said: “Clare is a much-loved, top quality live broadcaster who thrives on engaging with people from all walks of life. I’m sure she will be a big hit on the show as we continue to embrace the rich mix of faith and spirituality that Good Morning Sunday listeners know and love.

Clare Balding said: “I grew up listening to Terry Wogan on Radio 2 with my Mum and I couldn’t be prouder to join a station that boasts a host of brilliant, iconic broadcasters. I am thrilled to be asked to be a part of the Radio 2 family and look forward to sharing Sunday mornings with listeners who know their eggs from their onions, who enjoy music, conversation and sharing ideas.

The same Clare Balding who was using expletives on Have I got News on Friday night?! Perfect choice for a religious programme R2. Not.

Will the BBC ever get it?
The one thing that pisses people off most is celebrity names presenting radio programmes for astronomical sums of money especially at a time when they (the BBC) are supposed to be saving money.
There are over a dozen radio presenters about to lose their jobs at GMG and locally at the BBC because of corporate greed, who would do the show for a shit load less than what Claire’s no doubt getting paid.
In fact, the BBC local presenters who are about to lose their jobs could save the BBC even more by presenting the show from their local studios.

Tv presenter FM(BBC 1 without the pictures) continues. Claire balding is a very good tv sports broadcaster but I’m not sure about her on the radio as its different to tv. I think radio 2 needs to think more radio than tv and who’s famous enough to pull an audience from the tv/Internet to radio as the BBC does not have to worry about finding as the commercial stations. Dermot o dreary and Aneka rice pudding just don’t cut it on a station as big as radio 2. Richard Allinson or lynn parsons would have been a better choice for this slot.

The problem is radio stations want to stick to tried and tested names and make it very hard for up and coming talent or people with potential to get in. It’s more who you know not what you know. The radio community is a small one and of your name doesn’t fit or have a personality that has a likeable but sometimes slack nature they don’t like it. A number(not all!) of BBC journalist / people I found to be two faced, story tellers or just never made themselves unaccessible to normal people or budding people unless it was twitter or email. I’ve seen one instance

No No No Clare Balding Is Not Wright For BBC Radio 2 Sundays Good Morning Show It Would Be So Nice If BBC Radio 2 Do Get Richard Madeley To Do The Good Morning Show On BBC Radio 2 On Sundays Mornings Or Do Get Ken Bruce Or Do Get Sir Terry Wogan Or John Humphrys Or Get James Naughtie To Take Over Good Morning Show On Sundays On BBC Radio 2 But Please Please Please Do Not Let Clare Balding To Take Over This Show On BBC Radio 2 It Is Not Wright Clare Balding Is A Sport Presenter And It Is Not Wright And Good To Let Clare Balding To Take Over This Show On BBC Radio 2 On Sundays Mornings I Do Hope BBC Radio 2 Managers Do Read This Them Self And Have A ReThink On This Now Please

Again we are forcefed a presenter who is flavour of the month. What is it with the BBC? It seems that if a person is particularly good in one programme, in this case sport, it is automatically assumed they we want them served at breakfast, dinner and tea, followed by supper.

I think she’ll be great for it. She has sensitivity, a genuine interest in who she interviews and a bubbly personality. I’m certainly looking forward to listening to her on the show.

I think it’s a really tough decision and Clare might do really well at this. To present the show, the first requirement is that the presenter is a practising Christian and then that they have real warmth and sincerity. Did anyone believe that Aled Jones would make a great radio presenter years ago? Give Clare a chance, you may be surprised!
