Jonathan Wall to take control of 5 Live

BBC Radio 5 Live has appointed Jonathan Wall as Acting Controller whilst Controller Adrian Van Klaveren takes on a new role for two months.

Salford-based Van Klaveren has been asked to join the BBC News Management team, taking over as editorial lead on Savile coverage and supporting BBC News director Helen Boaden and her deputy Steve Mitchell.

Jonathan Wall, who is currently Deputy Controller of BBC Radio 5 live will take over day-to-day running of the network till Christmas. Also based at MediaCityUK in Salford, Jonathan is currently responsible for commissioning programme strands on Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports extra and oversees the networks.

In an email to staff, Van Klaveren says “Following a discussion with Peter Salmon, it has been agreed that Jonathan Wall will become Acting Controller of BBC Radio 5 live. I know that I’m leaving the station in excellent hands.”

    In view of the fact that Mr Wall is already at the Station, he is well placed to continue Van Klaveren’s policy of dumbing down the station. They have already started with their choice of another of their “throaty women” to replace Aasmah Mir on Drive. Luckily she will only be on for 3 days per week (Wed, Thurs and Friday from what I hear..
