Ofcom invites Gtr London FM applications

Following the surrender of a community radio licence in Hammersmith, Ofcom will be inviting community radio applications on FM within the M25 in 2014.

ofcomThere are at least three AM frequencies also available, because three groups which were offered licences to operate on medium wave have not launched their services.

Ofcom was expected to invite South East applications in the first half of 2014 but stated there are no suitable FM or AM frequencies available within this area.

Speaking about 101.4, the newly available FM frequency, Ofcom said: “We expect this frequency to be useable elsewhere in London, but cannot specify where at present. We will clarify this in the early autumn.”

OnFM handed back their licence to Ofcom, following a spell of being off-air in September 2012. The station, which served Hammersmith with a particular focus on the Irish population as well as other ethnic groups, stopped broadcasting after a bill from the landlord of the transmitter site went unpaid.
