talkSPORT rights deal extends to Europe

UTV Media’s talkSPORT has extended its global audio rights agreement with the Premier League to offer it to stations in Europe.

The station can now sell exclusive live audio commentary of Barclays Premier League matches in any language, across Europe, excluding UK and Ireland.

The agreement extends the station’s existing package of exclusive rights which already allows it to broadcast commentary on all 380 Barclays Premier League games in multiple languages outside the European Economic Area for the next three seasons.

talkSPORT has been the global audio partner of the Premier League since 2012 and last season broadcast commentary in English, Spanish and Mandarin via talkSPORT.com and a network of radio syndication partners. talkSPORT’s international commentaries are also distributed around the world via TuneIn, under a long-term strategic partnership with the US based digital audio service.

The new season will see talkSPORT extend the languages that it broadcasts live commentaries in to include Vietnamese and Bahasa Malay with more languages to follow.

In advance of the 2013/14 season, talkSPORT has already signed new agreements with partners including Dial Global in the USA, Beijing-based Adrep China, the Voice of Vietnam and Singapore’s newly launched Red Card Sports Radio.

Scott Taunton, talkSPORT CEO said: “Becoming global audio partner of the Premier League was the biggest development in the history of talkSPORT and having extended our rights to include Europe we are proud to offer a truly worldwide service. Coupled with the £1million prize on offer with talkSPORT Predictor, the upcoming Barclays Premier League season is shaping up to be the biggest and most exciting in talkSPORT’s history as we engage with millions of listeners every week and on every continent.”
