Star Radio names latest football Legend

Star Radio North East has unveiled its new footballing Legend, former Sunderland AFC player Richard Ord aka “Dickie Ord”.

Dickie joined Malcolm Macdonald and Bernie Slaven in Star’s Darlington studios for his first Three Legends show at 6pm today and became the third Sunderland Legend in the show’s 14 year history.

Ord, immortalised in the song “Who needs Cantona When We’ve got Dickie Ord”, said: “I’m a local lad born and bred in Murton in County Durham so it’s great to join the local station. I’ve shouted at the radio over the years, especially when Macdonald is spouting on about Newcastle, so it’s great being able to have some banter with him for real. Watch out Supermac I’m coming after you!”

The Three Legends football phone-in is broadcast every weekday evening 6pm-8pm on Star Radio North East and Managing Director Mark Reason says he’s delighted with their new signing, telling RadioToday: “Dickie is a great addition to the show. In the 1990’s he helped Sunderland win two promotions and a got himself an FA Cup runners-up medal.

“Football fans in the North East love the Three Legends show and I know they’ll love having Dickie going head to head with Malcolm and Bernie!”
