Ken Bates makes plans for Radio Yorkshire

The owner of the now closed Yorkshire Radio is helping to launch a new station under the name of Radio Yorkshire.

Ken Bates, who started the station whilst Chairman at Leeds United in 2006, is an advisor for the new station which will broadcast on DAB and online.

Ken told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It’s going to be a freestanding station, not aligned to any particular cause. It will be independent and discussion-worthy.”

It will be based above a SUBWAY Restaurant opposite Elland Road and it is understood live TV will also operate alongside the radio station.

Rick Houghton is launch consultant for the new station. He told RadioToday: “The station will be totally interactive with a live TV element that will produce it’s own bespoke content. DAB across Yorkshire, will launch sometime in quarter one 2014.

“We are aiming for a full service radio station which will focus on music and the best of Yorkshire Sports, football, rugby, cricket, motor sport, boxing, horse racing and more.”
