Real and Smooth Radio Scotland Managing Director Gavin Bruce is leaving the company ahead of the official takeover by Global Radio.
Gavin has been with the group for almost 12 years, having joined GMG Radio as a Sales Executive in April 2002. He worked his way up to become Sales Manager, then Sales Director before taking over as MD in 2009 from Billy Anderson.
In an email to staff today, Gavin said: “At the beginning of hold separate I made a commitment that I would give everything I had to deliver a strong and successful Scotland team to the point of transition with Global. I promised that the brands would be in great shape, the revenues would be market leading and, most importantly, that the already great people would be even better placed to show their new bosses that they have inherited true talent.
“At the time of making this commitment I also said that fulfilling this would be my last act for Real and Smooth Radio. So, at the end of March – as good as 12 years to the day after walking into GMG Radio for the first time – I will be stepping aside from my role as Managing Director.”
Gavin pointed out that it is his choice to leave the company but has no other worked lined up as yet.
Real and Smooth CEO Mark Lee added: “Gavin is one of the most outstanding radio MDs I have ever had the pleasure to work with and I have huge respect for what he has achieved with our customers, listeners and his team. It’s been an honour to work with you Gav and we all wish you the very best for the future.”
Real Radio Scotland will soon be owned and operated by Global Radio and transformed into Heart Scotland, pending regulatory approval in Ireland for the sale of Capital Scotland to Communicorp.
