After 14 and a half years at BBC Radio 1, Sara Cox is hosting her last ever show on the network today, with a number of other radio presenters and special guests appearing.
Nick Grimshaw has stayed on after his breakfast show to wish her well and Annie Mac is also joining her, with recorded clips from others also remembering Sara’s most memorable moments.
The Bolton-born presenter now has a regular show on BBC Radio 2. Sara said: “Awww I’ll be sad to leave, come with me to Radio 2,” she said to Nick Grimshaw, to which he joked “give it six months!”.
Ben Cooper, Controller, BBC Radio 1, said: “Sara is a fantastic presenter and we will all miss her greatly. She has grown over her 15 years at Radio 1 to become one of the country’s top broadcasters and we’re delighted that she remains in the BBC family.”
Sara’s first show on Radio 1 was in 1999 when she co-hosted a show with Emma B. She went on to host the breakfast show before making way for Chris Moyles at the end of 2003. Most recently Sara has been providing maternity cover for Fearne Cotton.
