Commentary of the Grand National will air on a national commercial radio station for the first time this year.
talkSPORT will broadcast the race and many others throughout the year in a new deal with Racecourse Media Group.
The UTV station will broadcast live coverage of both the flat and jump racing calendar including the Derby, the Oaks, the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot. talkSPORT’s regular racing correspondent Rupert Bell will bring listeners commentary this Saturday afternoon live from Aintree.
Liam Fisher, talkSPORT Programme Director, said: “This new partnership follows hot on the heels of a hugely successful Cheltenham Festival for talkSPORT where we broadcast two shows and live commentary throughout the week. We know racing is hugely popular with our listeners, as well as our presenters and I can’t wait to bring the Grand National live on Saturday afternoon along with a busy afternoon of Barclays Premier League football.”
Racecourse Media Group, the parent company of Racing UK, manages the media rights for 34 of the UK’s leading racecourses, including Aintree, Ascot, Cheltenham, Epsom and Newmarket.
Richard FitzGerald, CEO of Racecourse Media Group, said: “We are delighted that talkSPORT and Racecourse Media Group have agreed this partnership, which will give the sport a fantastic shop window. All the major meetings throughout the year will benefit from quality airtime on talkSPORT, which is great news for racing’s profile.”
