Berkshire’s JACKfm breakfast presenters Robin Banks and Neal Veglio have picked up the station’s first award – for eating donuts.
The competition, Donut Eating Contest against The Reading Chronicle, saw the presenters face off against newspaper reporter Alex McDowell and another nameless hack who, Veglio described as “looking like a undernourished school boy.”
Commenting on the win, Robin Banks said: “I thought we were coming for a different competition, that’s why Neal was practicing with hotdogs for three weeks. He didn’t complain. Seriously though, we came, we saw, we scoffed what was in front of us. I set the pace then Neal let his oesophagus do its thing. He really has a sweet, well-toned throat as our listeners know only too well, every weekday morning on 107 JACK fm Berkshire.”
On hearing of the newest accolade to add to the collection, Programme Manager Gavin Harris said: “I pretty much know they’re not going to win anything on air, so at least it’s something they can crow about.”
Managing Director Sue Reynolds added: “Some told me I was putting together a team that would never even be awarded with a council tax bill, but I’ve shown them. I knew my boys had what it takes to do 107 JACK fm Berkshire proud, and as they’ve demonstrated, they not only won a key local competition, but did it with style and grace. My phone hasn’t stopped ringing all day, because of other radio station bosses congratulating me on hiring such a talented team.”
