The Big Top 40 to include YouTube plays

The Vodafone Big Top 40 is to start taking into account streaming, YouTube and social media in addition to downloads and radio airplay.

For the last five years, the chart has worked in real time combining iTunes and airplay but from this summer will include the extra data.

The show is put together by Global Radio in Leicester Square and broadcast on 118 commercial radio stations across the UK, presented by Marvin Humes each Sunday 4pm till 7pm.

Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president of Global, said: “More and more people consume music and interact with music on many platforms including downloads, streaming services, YouTube, social media and radio. The new chart that reflects how people listen to music and interact with music in 2014 and beyond.

“With the new Vodafone Big Top 40, however our listeners are getting their music fix, we’re there and we’re counting their music choices and we will continue to add new relevant data sources as consumption and interaction habits continue to evolve.”
