Two students from Infuse Radio will be attempting to break the world record for the longest radio marathon as a team later this month.
Alex Holland-Martin and Simon Turp, both students from Essex (studying at South Essex College, Southend) will be aiming for 87 hours starting at 6AM on 27th May, and is expected to finish at 9PM on the 30th May.
They’re doing it for charity and Simon has chosen the selected charity of Macmillan because his great grandfather was helped by them before he passed away in March of this year. The radio duo have previously hosted an 8 1/2 hour radio show in March to raise money for Sport Relief, and raised £300 just from walking around the college collecting donations as a result of their show.
Simon Turp says: “It feels fantastic to be able to do something like this, and it’s all thanks to the college and all sponsors of the show that will be mentioned throughout the attempt. It’s going to be a big opportunity for myself and Alex, but will also be very tiring! I feel we can do it though!”
Alex Holland-Martin added: “Feeling nervous but will be looking forward to a good nights sleep at the end. After doing an 8 1/2 hours radio show with Simon, I think this will be exciting fun as that was hard enough as it is! We can also add our names to the list and be up there with Chris Moyles!”
