Community radio station Bay FM has won the Social Enterprise/Charity of The Year award at the Exmouth Business Awards 2014.
The ceremony took place at the Exmouth Pavilion on Friday 9th May and was hosted by the Minister of State and Commonwealth Office, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire.
After announcing Bay FM as the winner, The Rt Hon Hugo Swire read-out the following: “Staffed by volunteer presenters and journalists, Bay FM Community Radio and its team have helped to raise valuable funds for our charities, provided much needed coverage and support for our events and of course, entertained us ever since their trail launch in 2006.
“A year ago they launched full-time and coverage increased dramatically to cover a large percentage of East Devon.”
Founder and Station Manager Andy Green told RadioToday: “The team are great at Bay FM, a special thank you to everyone who has supported us, the people who nominated us and of course the listeners, I’ve never been to an award event like this so I was completely shocked when we won, Thank you.”
Andy went on to say “Bay FM started out as an idea on a A4 piece of paper in 2006 and if someone had told me then that in eight years we would be picking up a award for it, I would have thought they were completely nuts.
“Bay FM has been growing from strength to strength since and getting the licence which was the hardest thing my partner Julie and I have ever achieved.”
