Ed Sheeran has played an exclusive show in Weatherfield as he took to the cobbles of Coronation Street as part of the 40th birthday celebrations for Key 103 in Manchester.
The singer, currently at number one in the Big Top 40 chart with Sing, performed tracks including Lego House, The A-Team, You need me I don’t need you and I see Fire from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug at Coronation Street The Tour in front of guests of the radio station. To be able to attend the show twenty listeners had to find t-shirts hidden around Greater Manchester to secure pair of tickets to the exclusive performance.
Speaking ahead of the show with Key 103 breakfast presenters Mike & Chelsea in the Rovers Return when asked how he stays so grounded with such success, Ed said, “Because there’s always someone else doing better. At the moment we’re trying to beat Coldplay’s week one which is the biggest of the year, but it’s going to be very, very close. So you can’t be like I’m the king of the world because Chris Martin will just be like ‘well no you’re not mate’.”
During the show Ed showed how he’s helping the sales of his new album by purchasing copies himself from the supermarket where he can when he said, “we went to Moss Side Asda to pick up a copy of the album and the guys there said, ‘oh yeah, this one is doing alright, we’ve sold a few copies of this one’.”
This year Key 103 is celebrating 40 years since the launch of its predecessor Piccadilly Radio in Manchester.
