A protest outside talkSPORT has been organised by a group of veterans not happy with a tweet sent by Stan Collymore.
Members of the Falklands War Armed Forces Veteran community together with fellow veterans of all three services and members of the public will stage a static protest outside the station’s Southwark HQ on 21 June 2014 at 12pm.
The protest is in response to presenter Stan Collymore’s now notorious Falklands tweet which stated that we (The British) had ‘thieved it because that’s what we do’ and that it was nothing more than ‘a fu**ing Island with sheep’.
The tweet, which was posted on the anniversary of the sinking of HMS Coventry and The Atlantic Conveyor with the loss of 31 British lives, caused widespread anger amongst the veteran community who regard it as being disrespectful to the memories of the 255 servicemen and 3 Islanders who died during the liberation of the Islands as well as to those who took part in the conflict. Many of whom still suffer as a result.
The group says Stan has refused to apologise for the offence his tweet caused but has instead blamed those offended for taking his tweet out of context.
talkSPORT does not comment on individual presenters twitter accounts but did tell RadioToday: “We have offered for a member of senior management to meet with representatives from the group.”
