Pete Price, a radio presenter in Liverpool for almost 50 years, has been removed from Radio City 96.7 in favour of sister station City Talk 105.9.
Most recently the show has been simulcast on both stations but from tonight will only be heard on City Talk as Radio City starts taking the networked Bauer Media late show with Kate Lawler from Manchester.
Pete announced the news yesterday before his last simulcast show, and made this video to inform listeners.
Owen Ryan, Group Content Director, Bauer Media North of England and Scotland, said: “Kate’s show has launched to great success – this move is about extending the Bauer Radio footprint in Liverpool, North Wales and the North West. With heavy weight talent like Kate Lawler and Pete price available in the same market, we are offering our listeners truly market leading content choices which we believe will drive market share and increased commercial gains.”
He has hosted a phone-in show on commercial radio in the city since the 1980s, having originally joined BBC Radio Merseyside in 1967. His late night phone in previous moved to City Talk when the all-speech station launched in 2008 but moved back to Radio City shortly after.
The move brings the Merseyside station into line with most other Bauer stations, with only local programmes broadcast from the area for 11 hours per day. Within Bauer’s Northern stations, only Metro Radio/TFM continues with a late night phone-in on FM, with Alan Robson, whilst CFM has “Mellow Magic” from 10pm.
