UKRD’s Sun FM has given away £3250 in cash to one listener after working out the answer to Sunderland’s Secret Sound.
The competition has been on-air since January, and in the last month it was revealed the sound was something in the National Glass Centre.
A 25 year old called Daniel from Hetton Le Hole won it on Friday at 5.40pm and will be given £3250 cash today (Monday). On Thursday extra clues were given during a live broadcast at the National Glass Centre where the cash arrived in a convoy with a securityman handcuffed to a briefcase. The station says one man telephoned 294 times to try and get through with the right answer.
Managing Director of Sun FM Julian Carter told RadioToday: “We just wanted somebody to win this and get the cash instead of a cheque. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but carrying around £3250 in cash for days is not great! Other radio stations probably cannot do this anymore, but we can. It will really make Daniel VERY happy and hopefully he can spend it all here in Sunderland!”
Director of National Glass Centre, James Bustard added: “We welcomed lots of new people to the centre to guess the sound and had a higher than normal attendance … none of our staff even knew what it was!”
