Afternoon presenter Laura Rawlings is joining current BBC Radio Bristol breakfast show host Steve LeFevre for a new double-header show starting in September.
The station says the new programme will bring a “fresh new sound to the mix of strong local journalism, traffic and travel, weather, conversation and debate around local issues that listeners know and value”.
Steve has been presenting the show since 2009, and has been working on television and radio in England for 18, having originally moved from Northern Ireland. He’s hosted the Media Show, Weekend Breakfast and Late Night Live on 5 live, plus a talk show on BBC Radio Leeds.
Editor of BBC Radio Bristol, Tim Pemberton, says: “Laura and Steve are great company, and together are the perfect combination to listen to at Breakfast. They both have strong journalistic credentials and share a passion for life in the West Country. We think listeners are going to love hearing them talk about the issues that matter to everyone who lives and works in this part of the world.”
Steve says: “I’m delighted to be working with Laura again. She’s a terrific broadcaster and a great friend, and I look forward to must-listen programmes and a lot of fun between 6.30am and 9.00am!”
Laura has presented afternoons on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset since April 2013. She spent a number of year presenting at BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Wiltshire where she won a GMG Award for her gardening programme. She has also been a station manager and editor at two community radio stations.
“I’ve got the opportunity to present Breakfast on the radio station I grew up listening to – it’s a real buzz!,” Laura says. We will cover local news and sport but we’re also going to have some fun and you’ll see us out and about around the region more. The team at BBC Radio Bristol are fantastic, Steve’s a good friend and a great broadcaster – and I can’t wait to join the best radio Breakfast club, waking up Bristol and Bath!”
