Signal one has held a party for hundreds of their listeners – both the human and canine varieties.
The Pooch Party was held to welcome home Martin Lowes’ dog Derek, who went missing a few days after Martin brought him home from the rescue centre.
Signal 1 launched a campaign to find Derek and have him safely returned, and on his birthday Martin got a call from the police to say that they had found him.
The event included awards including Cutest Dog, Friendliest Dog and Naughtiest Dog and the day also raised money for Help a Signal Child, a fund that help disadvantaged children in the area.
Signal 1 presenter Martin Lowes said: “Derek has become a bit of a local celebrity and is talked about everywhere I go – he’ll continue to be the mascot of the homerun. I was overwhelmed at the reaction from listeners helping us find him and joining him in his welcome home party.”
Chris Buckley, Senior Programme Controller for Signal 1, said: “I’ve held some interesting events for radio stations in the past but this is the first party for dogs! To see so many of our listeners turn up on a Sunday afternoon with their pets was truly remarkable, and shows how much they feel invested in the station.”
