Gem 106 breakfast show presenters Sam and Amy recently helped organise a wedding along with the bride’s two young daughters.
Bride Susan Tarby handed the reins to her daughters Dotty, five, and Maddie, eight, who organised her nuptials to Adam Bugby at Twinlakes Family Theme Park.
Sam and Amy helped to secure the menu of chicken nuggets and a chocolate and vanilla wedding cake, and also performed the ceremony.
Sam said: “Arranging a wedding is definitely more fun when the ideas are coming from a nine-year-old and a four-year-old! Who else would suggest having the bride kidnapped by pirates just before she gets to say ‘I do’?
“I just hope the bride and groom don’t mind riding the log flume as soon as soon as the ceremony is done!”
The groom-to-be Adam said: “I was saving up for an engagement ring to do it [propose], but in the end I proposed with a loom band ring that the girls made. They were very excited.”
The girls decided that the theme for the day would be “birthday party” because Dotty turned five the day before and Adam was 39 on the wedding day.
Guests were asked to wear loom bands, and treated to performances from stilt walkers and magicians. The decorations of paper lanterns, fairy lights and hay bales were also selected by Dotty and Maddie, who also ensured that the day included musical bumps, pass the parcel and a dressing up box.
Speaking beforehand, Adam said: “I know they [the girls] want to put a pie in my face. But I am a relaxed kind of guy – as long as Susan and the girls are happy, that’s the main thing. It’s about them really.” The couple signed the official marriage paperwork the day before the wedding so Sam and Amy from Gem 106 performed a ‘blessing’ in front of family and friends.
