Sunderland community radio station Spark FM has hired Frankie Francis from Frankie and The Heartstrings to host a weekly show.
The station, which is based at the city’s university, says the show will be an essential listen for ‘anyone who loves music’.
Frankie’s band have had airplay on Radio 1 and XFM for the last year, and he also runs a record label and shop in Sunderland.
The show will be named ‘Pop Recs Radio’, to match his shop and label, and will feature Indie music on Tuesday evenings.
A spokesman for the station told us :”The shop has already gained a fantastic reputation for bringing the biggest names in music to Sunderland, and we’re hoping this show will be just as important for music lovers in the city!”
Artists to have performed gigs at the Pop Recs store include Franz Ferdinand, Maximo Park and The Ordinary Boys.
Frankie said: “I am pleased to be joining Spark and presenting a brand new show which will not only showcase emerging talent from across the globe but will also highlight the amazing music from right here in the north east community! You can expect exclusive interviews and music that will not hear anywhere else, it’s definitely a one of a kind, we are really aiming high!”
Frankie has already done radio work for Amazing Radio. The new show on Spark starts from 7th October.
