Stray FM is getting into the Christmas spirit early by asking listeners “How Big Is Your Bauble”?
Together with the Harrogate At Christmas Group, the UKRD station spent ten hours on air appealing for cash to fund this year’s Christmas lights in the town centre. The day of festive fundraising began on Nick Hancock at Breakfast, with a pledge from the leader of Harrogate Borough Council, who promised £10,000 in funding as long as the same amount could be raised again by local businesses and individuals.
Throughout the day, pledges were made ranging from £5 to £3000 and once everything had been added up, it was announced that £17,033 had been raised, which rises to £27,033 once the Council’s sum is added in.
Stray FM’s Managing Director Sarah Barry said: “This is an extraordinary amount to raise in a single day, and shows how truly local radio can capture the imagination, and change people’s lives in the local community. I can’t wait to see Harrogate’s best ever Christmas lights yet when we switch them on in a couple of months’ time!”.
Simon Cotton from Harrogate At Christmas said: “Harrogate – you should be proud of yourselves. Thank you Stray FM – we are fortunate to have such a great local station”.
