A new app from Radioplayer opens up hundreds of UK radio stations on Android Wear smartwatches.
In a demonstration video by Radioplayer’s MD Michael Hill, you can see the app being open by voice command, then the display features a station logo, information about the track or programme selected and play/stop/volume controls. Listeners can swipe sideways to find other stations in their ‘Favourites’, or browse the ‘Recommended’ list, to find stations they might like.
Michael says: “We’ve built radio into computers, phones, tablets, and even cars – but we wanted to see how it might look on a watch. These are hot technology gifts this Christmas, so we worked with the team at All In Media, to get it ready in time.”
Apple’s version, the Apple Watch, is expected to launch in early 2015, but dozens of Android Wear watches are already available from brands like Motorola, Samsung and LG, offering users information at a glance, as well as access to compatible apps. The Android Wear work was done in partnership with All In Media, who build and maintain most of the existing Radioplayer apps.
Radioplayer is already available on desktop computers and as an app on iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Android tablets, Kindles and Windows Phones, as well as offering a ‘Car Mode’ and integrating with ‘Ford SYNC’ dashboards.
The Radioplayer wearables app will be supported in the New Year with a marketing campaign, reaching out to new owners of Android Wear watches over Christmas.
