Cumbria community radio station closes

Indigo 106.6FM, a community radio station based in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria has closed after six years on-air.

The station decided to surrender its licence last month after certain unspecified events compromised the sustainability of the service.

Paul Broadbent, one of the directors of the station, also applied for an additional community radio licence in an adjacent area to Indigo in 2013 but this was rejected by Ofcom.

Indigo launched in March 2008 covering many towns and villages in the South Lakes, North Lancashire & North Yorkshire area including Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton, Sedbergh, Casterton, Barbon, Clapham, Bentham and Caton.

It’s not known exactly when Indigo stopped broadcasting as the station’s website is still fully operational inviting visitors to listen live.
