An emergency locksmith was called this morning to let the teams at Heart and Capital in Wrexham enter the studio building.
The problem with the locks meant three breakfast shows – Spence and Rachael on Communicorp’s Heart, plus Graeme & Sarah on Global’s Capital North West and North Wales, started 40 minutes later than planned.
On-air, programmes continued from London. On Heart, London idents started with the London news intro at 6am followed by London news and weather and the hour opener with Jamie Theakston. Jamie London continued till 6:40am until Spence managed to get on-air with Rachael and explain the station had a “technical fault i.e. locked out of the building for 40 minutes – thanks to Jamie for looking after the show.”
Meanwhile on Capital North West and North Wales, non-stop music was played from London for the station until 6:42 when Graeme and Sarah explained to listeners they had to have a man smash down the front door to get in. It was a similar situation on Capital Anglesey & Gwynedd.

The building, at Mold Road, Gwersyllt, Wrexham, is one of the sites where Communicorp UK and Global share facilities under separate ownership following the Competition Commission’s ruling last year.
