The Bee goes live on Meerkat video app

In what could be a first in the UK, Rob Charles is streaming live video from The Bee in Lancashire showing behind the scenes on his breakfast show via Meerkat.

It’s a simple case of putting an iPhone in the corner of the studio and letting listeners see what is happening when the microphone isn’t live – and hearing the banter in the studio too.

Whilst the idea is as old as the internet, the station is using a new app from the States called Meerkat, which allows live ‘Meerkasts’ riding on the back of Twitter. RadioToday understands Rob is the first UK radio presenter to stream his breakfast show on the app.

In Between songs, Rob offers commentary direct to camera thanking listeners.

The Bee broadcasts to Preston, Chorley, Blackburn, Darwen and Accrington.
