Dorset-based radio station Wessex FM has launched a trial new online service playing dance and current hits.
The aim of the radio station, known as WessexBeats.com is for listeners to choose the music.
Managing Director Steve Bulley told RadioToday: “The idea came to me a while ago after reading research showing how many younger people now only listen to radio via their phones and online”.
Station Producer Carl Ashwin added: “We are playing a mix of dance and chart remixes via our website wessexbeats.com and uniquely our listeners will chose what they want to hear.”
Other stations in the UKRD Group have also launched spin-off stations but on DAB – such as Yorkshire Coast Radio Extra and More Minster.
Steve added: “There are a number of commercial opportunities within this project and others we are considering in the future’.
