TBI Media leads UK radio at New York Awards

Independent radio production company TBI Media has 10 entries in the Finalists list for this year’s New York Festivals World’s Best Radio Programs awards.

Not far behind on the shortlist is BFBS Radio which gets 8 nominations.

There are also Finalist places for BBC Radio Leeds (4 nominations), BBC Radio Lincolnshire (2 nominations), Danny Baker (2 nominations), Stephen Nolan, UKRD, BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Gloucester, Manx Radio – as well as for whole host of programmes, presenters, documentaries, and production elements right across UK radio. From the BBC and commercial radio, to forces broadcasting, community radio, student radio and independent production, most sectors of the industry are represented.

21 UK indies appear on the Finalists list, with a total of 41 nominations. “D-Day: 70 Years on”, created and produced by TBI Media with Snappin’ Turtle Productions for BBC Radio 2, is shortlisted in seven separate categories.

Wise Buddah is nominated for Best Station ID for its Magic Radio jingles.

A RIG spokesman told RadioToday: “This is yet another great performance from UK indie producers, with nominations from a wide spread of companies based both inside and outside the M25. It only adds to the fact that our sector is continuing to produce a diverse range of successful creative content.”

BBC Radio Leeds has four Finalist places in total, three of them for its coverage of the Tour de France Grand Depart which spent two days in Yorkshire last summer. The station’s Managing Editor, Rozina Breen said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team. The Tour de France in Yorkshire captured the imagination of the county, the country and the world. We felt tremendously lucky to be able to report on such a fantastic story and I’m thrilled we did it justice. These nominations show our brilliant local journalism is world class.”

The New York Festivals World’s Best Radio Programs awards gala will be on Monday 22nd June at Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue in NYC. As well as Gold, Silver and Bronze trophy awards there’ll be the announcement of the Grand Trophy, Broadcaster of the Year, and UNDPI.
