A new community radio station for Belfast has soft-launched today from the city centre, aimed at the 55 plus age group.
Belfast 89FM started at 2pm Tuesday and uses the slogan ‘Lovin’ the 60s and 70s’ whilst focussing on topics of interest to the older audience.
Managing Director John Rosborough told RadioToday: ‘We’ve been delighted at the interest shown in the city’s new station, from the many people who wish to volunteer their time and skills to make programmes, and from within the Industry when I did a presentation to the members of the Publicity Association of Northern Ireland several months ago.
“Belfast 89FM will be feisty and fun, and the station that Baby Boomers can really call their own.”
The schedule includes Kenny Tosh at breakfast, plus Alan West and Kenny Davis looking after the afternoon drive. News is provided by Downtown Radio and a full launch is expected in September.
Belfast FM won a community radio licence from Ofcom in 2013.
