BBC Radio Devon’s long running mid-morning show host Judi Spiers is leaving the station after 15 years.
Judi announced the news on her show this morning, prompting a petition being set up by the local newspaper to try and make her stay.
Judi broke the news at the start of her show today, saying: “I’ve got something fairly important to announce. I am deeply saddened to tell you, that after 15 years broadcasting here at BBC Radio Devon, this is to be my last week.
“Words cannot possibly convey just how sad I am to be leaving and I’d like to thank all of you who’ve supported me over the years.”
Judi then went on to say they are going to celebrate the good times they’ve had, and played Celebration by Kool and the Gang.
The BBC said Judi has been offered other radio and TV opportunities within the BBC but after 10 years on the show it’s normal for radio stations to change their schedules from time to time.
Judi started her career in the South West, at the regional ITV station, becoming a national name via BBC1 in the 80s and 90s with Open Air and Pebble Mill. She also spend a number of years presenting weekends on BBC Radio 2.
