This year’s Radio Festival is to introduce a tribute event to former Jazz FM Chairman Richard Wheatly.
The Richard Wheatly Lecture will feature Director of Economics at Spotify Will Page in conversation with Annie Mac.
Richard joined Jazz FM in 1995 following a career in global advertising and saw Jazz FM as a music business and not just a radio station. He died in April this year after a short illness aged 69.
Jonathan Arendt, CEO Jazz FM said: I was keen to try a way to reflect Richards memory in a way that showed his forward thinking, so I am delighted that this year’s Festival will host the Richard Wheatly Lecture. It may seem odd to have someone from a music streaming service in a slot dedicated to a man who loved specialist music radio, but as I mentioned Richard was an entrepreneur and he would appreciate the twist. He also wouldn’t see the two as being mutually exclusive.
“This is a Festival where I think free thinking will flourish and Richard would like that.”
The Lecture will take place during the Radio Festival Showcase on Tuesday 29th September at 3.15pm, with coverage at RadioTodayLive.com
