Radio 1 creates downloadable Playlist show

The Radio 1 Playlist is a new weekly downloadable show, hosted and curated by a different DJ, artist or personality each week.

Each week it will feature an hour-long mix of themed music, and will also air from 9pm each Thursday. Examples include Daniel P. Carter’s Greatest Rock Songs Ever, Ellie Goulding’s Running Mix, Annie Mac’s Ibiza Classics and Grimmy’s Greatest Big Weekend Performances.

Phil Taggart, who currently hosts the Thursday evening (9-10pm) Radio 1 slot will remain a part of the station, hosting the Sunday night future music show (10pm-1am).

Ben Cooper, Controller of Radio 1 and 1Xtra, says: “Radio 1 continues to innovate with the way we present and distribute the new music that our listeners love, and I’m excited to see whose playlists I’ll be able to download to my phone. Across the industry, whether it be Spotify, Apple, or the BBC, we are all experimenting with reaching new audiences with audio in new ways.”

The weekly Radio 1 Playlist show will be produced by BBC Scotland.
