John Gillmore, host of BBC Radio Lancashire’s afternoon show, has been surprised with a special award in the county.
He has been presented with the Tourism Superstar honour, as voted for by an online public vote hosted by the Lancashire Evening Post.
The Tourism Superstar award acknowledges an individual who has gone the ‘extra mile’ to enhance the visitor experience or has been an extraordinary ambassador for Lancashire tourism. The award organisers say: “Gilly has spent 30 years on Lancashire’s airwaves championing the county. His afternoon programme is an out-and-out celebration of the best places, people and businesses the county has to offer.”
Gilly told RadioToday: “It’s an honour to be recognised for something that is an import part of my Afternoon programme. It’s a pleasure to take my programme out and about the length and breadth of the Red Rose county, and discover some of the amazing tourist destinations Lancashire has to offer.”
The event took place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and was hosted by Ranvir Singh who also won Media Personality of the Year at the Asian Media Awards recently. The event was sponsored by Global’s Heart amongst other regional companies.
