Newsreader proposes live on-air at Dee 106.3

Dee 106.3 journalist Phil Munns decided to use the radio to ask his girlfriend to marry him, live in the studio.

Phil met his girlfriend Lizzy Townley at the station so decided it was the perfect place to pop the question.

He told RadioToday: “It may be cliché but I’ve known for a while that Lizzy was the one. We’re perfect for each other. I’d considered a number of ways to ask thinking that she would like a public display of affection, so I thought what better way to do it then returning to the place we first met and using the company that first brought us together.”

Phil can be heard reading the news every weekday and presenting Dee’s Saturday Sport show. Lizzy has worked with Dee’s promotions team for a number of years.

Lizzy Townley said: “I don’t know what to say… There’s no way I expected it to happen when I walked into the studio.”

“I was shell shocked and even froze for a little bit when he asked me which I think worried a few people, but I was always going to say yes. I couldn’t be any happier.”

It happened at 10:10am on the Jamie Stevens Daytime show on Friday.
