Jon Holmes ridicules other stations on new talk show

Jon Holmes has started his new show on talkRADIO by ridiculing other radio stations, and even his new bosses.

Jon started by looking at what else was available in the afternoon on national radio – including references to BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 1 and Radio X.

“I’m assuming you’re no fan of highly edited talking with all the breaths taken out – that eliminates Steve Wright. Or over on Radio 1 a man in his 40s attempting to connect with 15 year olds. Although mind you it was always like that at Radio 1 I think – certainly in the 1970s,” Jon joked.

Jon complained to his new bosses that he wasn’t included so far in the advertising campaign for the station, and also ridiculed the talkRADIO logo, a theme which is continuing throughout the first couple of hours of his first show. He said the person who made the logo couldn’t decide if it should be lowercase or uppercase, so used both.

He also talked about his former gig at Radio X and tried to play a song by Florence and the Machine, saying at Radio X he played it every 10 minutes so wants to do the same.

In true Jon Holmes fashion, he also made remarks about the cost of an 0844 number (“we’ll call you back”) and the low quality MP2 currently in use for the station online. (This has since been upgraded to MP3)

Jon is on weekday afternoons starting today on the station which launched at 6am with Paul Ross. See the opening video below:
