BBC Leeds stays local after Jo Cox shooting

BBC Radio Leeds stayed local on Thursday to continue coverage and reaction of events in Birstall.

The station’s sports programme, scheduled for 6pm was cancelled, along with the networked evening show. Afternoon presenter Andrew Edwards continued his 12pm till 3pm show until 7pm, when Nick Ahad took over.

Usual Drive presenter Gayle Lofthouse was reporting from the scene of the incident instead, in which MP Jo Cox was shot.

The station also took the live press conference at 5.15pm which announced the sad news of Jo Cox’s death.

BBC Radio 5 live brought forward the start of Stephen Nolan’s show from 10.30pm to 10pm with Anna Foster reporting live from Birstall.
