Tamworth’s community radio station TCR FM could be forced off the airwaves if it can’t find a new home.
The station is asking local businesses to help after a combination of outgrowing its studio space and doubt over the building’s future, has left a question mark over how long the station can remain at its current base.
TCR FM Director of Events Mike Thomas told RadioToday: “The time has come to move out and look for a new home. Ideally it has got to be somewhere that fits well with the notion of having a radio station that’s interested in the local Tamworth community. Not necessarily in the town centre – it can be anywhere around Tamworth – just enough space that allows us to expand our current studios and somewhere we can gain access to 24/7. I’m convinced there are local businesses out there who can help us out.
“We are run entirely by volunteers and not-for-profit. All our presenters work for the love of radio – it’s a great experience whether you’ve always had an interest in radio or you want to volunteer for a hobby with a difference. We also offer our radio training course so you can learn the ropes.
“Several former presenters have gone on to forge careers in radio, both with BBC and commercial stations and there are several promising youngsters who’re currently presenting shows on the station. It would be a real shame if we had to pull the plug.”
