Two new board positions created for BBC Wales

BBC Wales has appointed Sian Gwynedd as the new Head of Content Production and Richard Thomas as Head of Digital and Marketing.

Both are appointments into newly-created roles, as part of BBC Wales’ drive for flatter structures to speed up decision making and boost collaboration, and complete the Board of Management.

As Head of Content Production, Sian Gwynedd will be in charge of BBC Wales’ network radio output and drive collaboration and development across the production community. She will further develop a number of areas including the partnership with S4C.

As Head of Digital and Marketing, Richard Thomas will help audiences navigate BBC Wales content across TV, radio and online. He will lead the development of integrated campaigns, on-screen creative, digital content production, brand strategy, audience insight, communications and scheduling.

Both Gwynedd and Thomas will also work closely with the project team leading on the new broadcast centre in Cardiff’s Central Square.

BBC Wales Director, Rhodri Talfan Davies, said: “Sian and Richard already have enviable track records of achievement at BBC Wales. Each will continue to bring their strengths and talents to the Board, to help realise BBC Wales’ ambitious plans for the future.”

Sian Gwynedd said: “These are exciting, challenging times and I’m really looking forward to working right across BBC Wales, as well as strengthening our partnership with S4C. Making sure we reflect contemporary Wales will be central to making sure we remain relevant to our audiences now and in the future.”

Richard Thomas said: “It’s a privilege to take on this new challenge, with a world of opportunity for the new department to explore. We’ll be a critically important production and audience focused department playing a vital role, especially with younger audiences. We’ll also be at the forefront of BBC Wales’ response to the constantly changing media landscape where audience preferences and tastes are changing at such a rapid pace. And to keep up with this change – and move ahead of it – I’m determined that we’ll have an unrelenting focus on innovation and creativity.”
