Essential funding for RSL AfanFM

Communities First has decided to award AfanFM, the community station for Neath and Port Talbot, ?9,960.83 for the project to conduct its 28 day broadcast in April.

The money will allow the station to go ahead with its broadcast by covering the costs of the legally required Broadcast and Music licences, as well as paying for the rental of a studio suite, premises and also a phoneline and broadband internet connection to allow AfanFM to “stream” its output on the Internet.

Another 2 Transmitters for Digital One

Digital One, the national commercial digital radio multiplex operator, has announced that it has switched on two more new DAB digital radio transmitters.

The transmitter at Stoke Holy Cross will boost coverage for national commercial DAB digital radio for almost 500,000 people in parts of Norwich and the surrounding area to the North East.

Ofcom sets out proposals on radio licensing

The Communications Act 2003 requires Ofcom to award licences for FM commercial radio services in open competition based on statutory criteria. Previously this duty was undertaken by the Radio Authority.

Ofcom is today publishing its proposals for the process for licensing new FM commercial radio services.

Emap brands on the up, Rock FM, Kiss 100 doing well

RAJAR results announced this week for Q4 2003 show that Emap continues to perform well and has increased its total listening hours by 17 per cent year-on-year to 73.4 million. Emap has increased its commercial radio market share to 15 per cent up from 14.2 per cent in the previous quarter.

The MV Communicator Returns..
