Objections to BBC DJ's erection

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter Tony Gillham's upset neighbours in the village where he lives - by putting up a 40ft radio mast in his garden without planning permission. The local council say they've asked him to take it down.

Tony, who hosts Radio Cambridgeshire's "Gillham Gold" show on Saturday mornings, has apparently applied retrospectively for planning permission to allow the mast to stay, but is facing criticism in the village of Buckden, Cambs.

One neighbour, Ronald Fisher, told local newspaper The Hunts Post: "The mast is surrounded by houses that have been there for some 30 years. It is 40ft high and is much closer to the houses and therefore just as much a visually dominant, out of keeping and alien feature as the telephone mast proposed for (nearby) Little Paxton, which was turned down. This tower is intrusive and dominates the immediate outlook."

Mr Gillham refused to comment when approached by his local newspaper. Huntingdonshire District Council will make a decision on the application when the current consultation period comes to an end.

The presenter also hosts weekly shows on other BBC local stations, including BBC Radio Devon, BBC Somerset Sound, BBC Radio Oxford and BBC Radio Berkshire.
