Peter Cook has been appointed as the new Editor of BBC Radio Suffolk, replacing Gerald Main. Gerald has transferred to the same role at BBC Essex. For Peter it is a return to the county where he has spent much of his career gaining experience in both commercial and BBC radio.
Peter started his broadcasting career at Radio Broadland in Norwich before moving to Saxon Radio and Radio Orwell in 1989. He then became Head of News at SGR FM before joining the BBC at Radio Suffolk in 1999 where he held a range of positions including News Editor and producer of the Mark Murphy breakfast show.
In 2002 he became Assistant Editor at BBC Radio Norfolk and was seconded to work as the Editor of BBC Radio Cleveland in Middlesbrough last year.
Peter Cook says: "I'm delighted to be returning to BBC Radio Suffolk. They're a hugely talented and dedicated team, both on and off-air, and it'll be a privilege to work with them.
"After 13 years of living and working in Suffolk, during which I met and married my wife Angela, this will feel very much like a home-coming. I know from experience that the listeners of Radio Suffolk are passionate about their station and I'm looking forward to hearing what they think about it.
"I've loved every moment of working at Radio Norfolk, a time during which the station has achieved record audience figures making it the most listened to BBC Local radio station in the country, and I've been lucky enough to work alongside some brilliant people including the Editor David Clayton and many talented broadcasters."
