RadioCentre meets Minister

RadioCentre is to host a meeting with Broadcasting Minister Sion Simon MP next week to give smaller stations the opportunity to discuss the Digital Economy Bill and the future of FM radio.

Representatives of around 120 small, local and independent stations have been invited by the trade body to consider the implications of the proposed digital radio upgrade.

The session will have a particular focus of what the Government has called the ‘ultra-local tier' of stations, and look at the proposals set out in the Digital Britain report and address their potential impact on smaller stations.

Andrew Harrison, chief executive of RadioCentre, said: “We’re delighted that the Minister has agreed to come and meet with RadioCentre members at this crucial time for our industry.

“It is a great opportunity for us all to discuss together with him the possibilities that a digital future allows, the importance of retaining an ultra local tier of FM stations and to address any fears or concerns from our small station members.”
