BBC Hereford and Worcester boss to leave

James Coghill is leaving his job as Managing Editor of BBC Hereford and Worcester after a 23 year career with the BBC.

His entire time at the corporation has been in the two counties, with the last 13 as head of the station.

BBC Hereford and Worcester picked up a Station of the Year award at the Sonys three years ago and has won a number of other accolades during James’ time in charge.

He told us: “It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to work with so many talented people over the years. I’m going to miss my colleagues and I’m going to miss our wonderful listeners who are the people who really make a local radio station what it is. There have been many highlights, but winning three Sony golds while Editor, including Station of the Year in 2009, has got to be up there.”

The Head of Regional and Local Programmes for the West Midlands, Cath Hearne, said: “James has led a station that’s been famous for winning awards. The station hit the headlines in 2007 for broadcasting round the clock during the June floods. James’ team really was the only emergency service providing information for motorists trapped on the M5. James has always stressed the importance of getting out and about in the two counties to have fun with loyal listeners whether at the Malvern Spring Show, the Hay Festival or doing the (almost) biggest salsa dance in the world. James will be missed by Editor colleagues across England, his own team…and me!”
