Big City Radio fined by Ofcom for failing to meet Key Commitments

Ofcom has fined Big CityRadio, now known as BRMB, £1200 for failing to meet its Key Commitments.

Big City Radio was the community station serving Aston, Birmingham, with a particular focus on the area’s ethnic communities. It changed to BRMB last September and the breach happened before the rebrand.

Following a complaint, Ofcom launched an investigation which found that the station broke the terms of its licence by failing to broadcast sufficient original output. It was also not meeting its requirements to provide local news, travel, weather, community information or sport.

The station also failed to provide a programme schedule and related information to assist the investigation.

Ofcom said: “Given these failings, we are today imposing a financial penalty of £1,200 on the licensee, which is payable to HM Paymaster General.”
