John Myers appointed Chairman

GMG Radio founder and former chief executive John Myers has taken on a new role – as chairman of Radio Tyneside.

The hospital radio station, which serves patients in Newcastle and Gateshead, welcomed John to the team after he took early retirement last year.

Currently, John acts as a consultant for a number of the worlds largest radio operators yet still finds time to get behind the mic under his John Morgan name whenever he can find the time.

Dave Nicholson MBE, Radio Tyneside’s Director said "We are delighted to have John on board with his wealth of radio experience which can only be a great asset to our organisation."

John Myers said:  “Radio Tyneside is the perfect model of how small radio stations should operate.  Great people, wonderful enthusiasm and a service that is so much in demand by its listeners.  I am delighted to be part of it.”

John was awarded a Fellowship in 2005 by The Radio Academy for his outstanding contribution to radio and in 2009 he was asked by the Labour Government to produce a report about the future of local radio in the UK.

A number of the recommendations contained within 'The Myers Review' have been accepted and acted upon by both the regulator and Government.
