Phoenix FM gets ready to fly

The community radio station for Brentwood and Billericay in Essex is ready to go live on March 23rd. Phoenix FM launches at 7pm, with a grand switch-on by presenters and guests. The station will broadcast 25 different shows, producing around 120 hours of live broadcasting a week.

Phoenix FM chairman Paul Golder, who has led the station since 1996, told us: "Having put on ten month-long FM broadcasts as part of preparations for going on air permanently, Phoenix FM has a solid track record of providing programmes rich in entertainment and information value. Brentwood and Billericay are gaining a new, lively and energetic station on their radio dial at 98FM."

Pilgrims Hatch's Sean Menzies, Gemma Smith, from Romford, and Essex-born Craig Hannington will front Phoenix FM's daytime programmes weekdays between 7am and 7pm. After waking up to Sean's breakfast show, Gemma will present Phoenix FM's lunchtime show before Craig gets listeners home during drivetime. Evenings and weekends will be given over to a wide mix of specialist music shows, including blues, soul, classical and arts, indie, folk and plenty of unsigned bands.

Day to day running of the station will be overseen by station manager Steve Mead. He said: "Since moving into our new high-profile studios in the Baytree Centre a month ago, the response to Phoenix FM's permanent return has been great. Once Brentwood and Billericay listeners have heard us on 98FM, I look forward to meeting as many as possible and hearing their feedback."
