Radio 4 Extra launch rumours

Plans to rebrand BBC Radio 7 as 4 Extra are well under way, according to a newspaper article.

The Telegraph reports the switch will happen in spring 2011, and that programmes such as The Archers will be aired a day early to entice DAB listenership.

"The new station is also likely to broadcast old editions of Desert Island Discs from the BBC’s archive, and it has also been suggested that new episodes of The Archers will be broadcast on Radio 4 Extra the day before they are heard on Radio 4," the paper [link=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/8217693/The-Archers-Extra-BBC-to-launch-Radio-4-sister-station-in-spring-2011.html]reports[/link].

The BBC Trust are staying quiet about its review so far – but will make an announcement about Radio 4 Extra, along with the Asian Network, Radio 3 and Radio 4 in January.
