Bauer’s Leeds station Radio Aire has announced details of what it says is the UK’s biggest free outdoor pop event, the Party in the Park.
Organised in conjunction with Leeds City Council, the first names to be confirmed for the gig on 31 July are Jessie J, Jay Sean, Tinchy Stryder and Example.
The concert takes place at Temple Newsam, former home of the V Festival and Leeds Festival, and will be a free event for 70,000 listeners.
The station is introducing a new online ballot for tickets this year because of the high volume of interest if usually gets. Listeners can apply for a maximum of four tickets per household from the station’s website from the end of this month, with priority going to those addresses in the Leeds City Council area. Anyone attending the station’s Aire on the Square charity concert later this month is also being automatically offered a ticket for the Party in the Park.
Leeds City Council executive member for leisure Councillor Adam Ogilvie said: “Every year Party in the Park is massively oversubscribed so this year we have looked carefully at how we can give everyone in Leeds a fair chance of getting tickets and this ballot system offers that. From the names already announced this year’s Party in the Park looks like being a fantastic show with lots more star names to add in the coming weeks so make sure you register for tickets to be there.”
96.3 Radio Aire station director Anthony Gay told RadioToday.co.uk: “After seeing the success of online ticket draws for major in demand events like Glastonbury and the Olympics, it made sense to use this method as the fairest way to distribute Party in the Park tickets to the people of Leeds.
