The Reading And Basingstoke multiplex is getting a new station this weekend as Reading 107 launches on DAB digital radio.
The station is making a big deal about the switch-on too, with a countdown and launch in the half time break of Reading’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Watford at the Madejski Stadium.
Sir John Madejski, Chairman of Reading FC and owner of the radio station, will be leading the countdown.
Gavin Harris, Reading 107’s Programme Controller said: “With more and more radio devices and cars having DAB Digital Radio, this additional method of broadcasting will enable even more people to tune in to Reading 107 across Reading – and enable them to listen even further on their journeys out of Reading, whilst still hearing all of the local news and information for Reading.”
Sir John Madejski said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for all the people in Reading and the surrounding towns and villages to be able to have a truly local radio station. Reading 107 and DAB Digital is like a local friend dropping in”.
Ford Ennals, CEO of Digital Radio UK, said: “This is great news for over 600,000 radio listeners in the Reading, Slough and Basingstoke areas. Working with the UK transmission provider Arqiva, the launch of Reading 107 on DAB means listeners can now tune in easily and listen in digital quality.”
At the moment, the Reading And Basingstoke multiplex, owned by Now Digital, only has five stations on it – BBC Radio Berkshire, Capital, Gold, Xfm and Heart.
