Real Radio has today started phase one of the upcoming rebrand to Heart.
Stations in the Real network are now using Heart’s voice over and identifying as “The Heart of” followed by the TSA.
In the North East, Yorkshire, North West and Scotland, Real Radio will change to Heart in early May. In North Wales the current Heart cluster will switch to Capital as Real Radio Wales changes to Heart.
RadioToday understands an extra breakfast and drivetime show will be created on the Mid and North Wales transmitters, separate from South Wales. This is an Ofcom requirement as Heart South Wales and North Wales are owned by different companies (Global Radio and Communicorp respectively).
On-air today, the Real Good Feel Good strap line has been dropped.
Global Radio has also introduced regional programmes back to Smooth Radio at breakfast and drive, as required under Ofcom rules now that the brand does not have a common owner. The station is also expected to leave national DAB shortly.
Also from today, Gold is running without presenters outside of drivetime, as recently revealed by RadioToday.
